Gold Coins

The text message notification on my Android,
according to my brother, sounds just like the part on the
Super Mario Bros game where Mario jumps up and nabs those gold coins
and gets points as he progresses through the game.
So now when someone sends me a text
my brother laughs and says “Woo! Mario just got new coins”.

Well in real life, I think when we jump hurdles, face challenges,
confront our fears and allow our souls to be strengthened in adversity
it’s like jumping up and claiming our own little gold coins of success.

I’ve had some of my own mettle tested lately
and have had to face some of my own fears and back shelf cobwebs.
I’m choosing to lunge out into the new and unfamiliar territory
of a life beyond the broken record.

I choose to trust those with safe hearts.
To protect what is valuable.
To nurture what is sacred.
To be authentic even in the face of pain.
To believe the best
and to face the little doubts and fears that want to nip at my heels—
trying to sabotage my forward movement and steal my confidence.

What lies ahead is worth fighting for.
So this little fighter isn’t giving up.
I’m going after those gold coins.
